Dear SLPOA Members and Our Lakefront Neighbors,
The Scipio Lake Property Owners Association was founded in 1986 by Town of Scipio lakefront property owners concerned with apparent assessment disparities between lakefront and nonlakefront parcels.
On average, about half of the lakefront owners in Scipio have been members.
For its first twenty years, SLPOA focused on collecting assessment data from Cayuga
County's Real Property Tax Services for members to analyze and discuss.
A decade ago as RPTS provided public online access of increasingly organized and detailed assessment data, SLPOA's focus began shifting from assessment concerns to lake quality and other pertinent issues.
And now, after several quiet Covid years, SLPOA is gearing up ....
ALL owners of lakefront property in the Town of Scipio are invited to a unique meeting of the SLPOA ––
Date: Saturday, August 24, 2024
Time: 10:00am
Place: Fire Lane 14, Casowasco Drive, Emmaus Hall - the dining and conference center
Scheduled Speakers:
Ron Curvin, President of Scipio Lake Property Owners Association.
Carol Sutkus, President of Owasco Watershed Lake Association (OWLA).
Ken Kudla and Linda Vitale, on the importance of freshwater, the Great Lakes, the Owasco Watershed, and efforts by OWLA volunteers.
Adam Effler, Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council on the Lake Friendly Living Pledge and the Nine Element Plan for Phosphorus Reduction in Owasco Lake.
Ann Robson, former President of OWLA, and current Scipio Town Clerk, Registrar, and Tax Collector.
Gary Mutchler, Supervisor, Town of Scipio. As a retired dairy farmer, Gary will speak about the efforts farmers are making to improve the quality of the lake water.
Please join us to meet not only these community leaders but also your fellow lake property owners. (Since SLPOA's inception, meeting lake property neighbors has been invaluable for friendships and for sharing common concerns.)
Our Board of Directors meets once a year in early summer and generally in August the full membership meets to discuss current concerns. Often a speaker or two will address us, but this year, as you read above, we are blessed with a bounty of very active and knowledgeable individuals who in addition to their presentations will be available to answer questions.
New members are always welcome. To join SLPOA is a contribution of only $10.00. There are no annual membership fees. Please fill out a Membership Form that will be available at the meeting.
Light refreshments will be served.
